Copenhagen

Things here don't open on Mondays.  Our first day in Copenhagen was a Monday so we decided to explore the city and go to the few attractions that are open.

The first thing I noticed was that things work the opposite way here. You gotta look to your left rather than the right if you want to cross the road. On multiple occasions we thought the road was clear but then realize cyclists were coming from the other way! You think the doors were push but they pull. I freaked out thinking I was trapped in a toilet stall because I couldn't get out no matter how hard I pushed.

The second thing is that Copenhagen is truly a bicycle city. It is so bike friendly with plenty of bike racks, bike lanes, bike traffic lights, bike carparks, bike shops. Unlike Hong Kong, bikes are very well kept and I don't think I've seen any abondoned bikes.

Finally, I admire was how slow everyone is living. Nobody is rushing to go anywhere. And everyone seems to be very engaged with life itself. What I mean is they're going to places on their bikes, they're hanging out with friends outside in the sun, they're exercising, doing yoga, reading a book, knitting, interacting with their surroundings. You can HARDLY find anyone on their smartphones. It just looks like everyone here understands the way to happiness.

Day Zero

Welcome to my new project.

Tonight, holding a one-way ticket to Copenhagen, I will begin my adventure to Europe. I have never set foot on the continent before so it is going to be a whole new experience. Some parts of this "go with the flow" trip have already been planned out but the rest of the journey is like a blank book right now.

Although I have travelled alone before, this will be my first time backpacking, going on an unplanned trip, full of uncertainty. This space is going to be a journal and an outlet. There will be many feelings, experiences, pictures, people, places, knowledge, wisdom that I would want to record and share with others.

So what made me decide to quit my job and embark on an adventure? I have always been a believer of choice. But with the life events that have happened so far in my tenth year of adulthood, fate seemed to have suddenly played a huge role. And the more choices I make in life, the more it seems to be pushing me into a certain direction.

Some say I'm courageous, I say it is taking a leap of faith. "If not now, then when? If not me, then who?" I don't believe in bad choices, but I would hate myself if I never took the step forward, even if it is into the unknown. Whichever path I take, wherever the journey takes me, I know it is a step made into the right direction. There is a calling that needs to be answered.

As one of my dearest clients always say, "let's do it, if we never try we will never know." I am so grateful for all the people who have encouraged me to take this break and live life a little. I may be traveling solo, but I know I am not alone :) Please keep checking back, leave comments, give suggestions, share my page, whatever it is! Let's stay connected. I hope you will too discover valuable lessons in my adventures.
